Let me start by saying that I love the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind. I've read all the books through several times. I've listened to the audio books on my way to work. I've even written Terry a letter, something I NEVER do.

The story is fascinating, the characters are deep and three dimensional, and the actions people take are well thought out and realistic. Everything that happens, happens for a reason. There combat is fast, realistic, and gruesome.

Just like every other hardcore Sword of Truth fan, I waited on the edge of my seat to learn that they were making a series about the books.

I guess where I am going with this is that the series was a big disappointment. The show isn't even close to the books. I was disappointed because I know that all they had to do with this one was follow the plot of the books and they would have had a home run on their hands. 11 Seasons, no problem.

What they did was completely butcher the plot. They took the names and some of the places and changed everything else. Richard hasn't memorized the book of counted shadows in this one, that is not a small change made to help the series run on time and under budget, this is a MAJOR rewrite. Richard HASN'T known Zedd his entire life, and doesn't have a relationship with him? Kahlan figures out right away that Zedd is the first wizard and not Richard?

The best analogy I can think of is having someone tell you that your mother is coming home for christmas, and then a woman dressed in your mothers clothing shows up instead.

I guess because I am a fan of the books so much, and i appreciate how good they are is why I can't watch the series. I gave it four episodes. Each time it was like watching something I love bleed to death.

To everyone who still likes the series and the books I don't fault you. This is just my opinion. I know I'm not alone, and I am sure there are a lot of reasons for people to like the show. But I have chosen not to be one of those people.
